This new project is focused on documenting and analyzing the tangible social and environmental outcomes associated with eco-labels and sustainability ratings. How much energy do energy-efficiency labels claim to save? How many acres of forests do paper certification programs claim to protect? How valid and accurate are these estimates? What outcomes are most commonly mentioned, and which are commonly avoided? This work will build on data collected on outcome transparency for 245 information-based environmental governance initiatives, and dive into more detailed analyses of specific programs.
